"Assessment of national priorities for metrology and conformity assessment"

CARDS 2004

"Assessment of national priorities for metrology and conformity assessment"

Contractor: EC DG JRC ( Joint Research Center), Belgium
IRMM (Institute for Reference Materials and Measurement), Belgium

Total value: 150 000 EUR
Project starting date: May 16, 2006
Project end date: May 15, 2007

Overall Objective:

Further develop the quality infrastructure in the Republic of Croatia, in line with the provisions of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA), and to create an enabling environment for the Croatian industries and manufacturers to improve their trade and industrial markets as well as quality of life.

Specific Objectives:

The specific objective of the contract is to support the upgrading of the technical infrastructure and the creation of recognized measurement laboratories and measurement standards in Croatia and the region and to produce a strategic document which would define priorities in the metrology field on the national level.

The result of the process, including needs analysis and impact study, would offer an objective assessment of the Croatian technical needs in areas defined as priority ones. Finally, this is meant to offer solid ground for the future decisions on investment policy to be based on.

The State Office for Metrology is within the defined scope of the activities the beneficiary institution. In addition, it is estimated that the practical involvement of representative stakeholders from the Metrology community in Croatia (such as CROLAB and Croatian Society for Metrology) would be beneficial to the entire process. The conformity assessment part of the strategy that would be the final product of this project should logically be focused on metrology related directives (NAWI, MID, LVD, EMC, ATEX). The Ministry of Economy, Labour and Entrepreneurship, coupled by DZM, should be involved in the strategy drafting efforts.
